all tired out

Today is Earth Day so I thought it appropriate to post a green idea. A little while ago I ordered a book called Eco Dog that I read about on a blog called PetSugar. While the book hasn’t arrived yet, one of the recipes is online and I thought it would be a great thing to post, being both spring and Earth Day.

It is an herbal flea powder that you can make at home! This saves packaging and you know that all of the ingredients are safe.

Herbal Flea Powder

From the Book Eco Dog by Corbett Marshall and Jim Deskevich.

Ingredients

Powdered Herbs:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender
  • Fennel
  • Yellow dock
  • Pennyroyal

Directions

  1. Combine as many of the powdered herbs as you can find.
  2. Mix together equal parts of each herb in a shaker top jar. (Find one at the Dollar Store)
  3. Brush your pet’s coat backward with your hand or a comb while sprinkling the powder onto the base of the hairs. Apply sparingly, paying special attention to the neck, back, and belly.
  4. Put your pet outside for a while afterwards, so the pests escape in your yard and not in your home.
