(Ottawa Dog of the Week for January 26th/09)

Buddy the Golden Retriever

“My dog Buddy is well known to many of the people who frequent the Bruce Pit dog park because he has been a source of adventure since I got him seven months ago. I adopted Buddy when he was not quite two years old and became his fourth home! You will see from the pictures that Buddy is a very active dog who needs many opportunities to satisfy his urge to run and play. In the first seven months with me, Buddy was sprayed by a skunk, jumped my four foot gate, chased a mini van, school bus and motorcycle and nipped at my neighbour who leaned in for a surprise kiss. Since then he has received some training and settled into the security of a permanent home. He has come full circle and become the best friend anyone could ask for. Everyone he meets loves him (yes even that neighbour).

Buddy has given me a new perspective on life. He forces me to get out of the house and walk, notice bunny rabbits eating under trees (I never knew we had so many rabbits in the city) and appreciate nature for all the beauty it possesses. At home, Buddy is more like a cat; he sleeps often and hardly makes a sound. Often Buddy will go with me on errands and sit in the back of my car watching the world go by. Sometimes I get the feeling he would do absolutely anything to please me…and the feeling is mutual.” – Buddy’s Mom, Dana
