(Ottawa Dog of the Week for June 8th/09)

“I rescued Zeus when he was 6 months old. He was the quietest boxer puppy I had ever seen…and I thought maybe I might have lucked out. Turns out Zeus had been abused, and his quiet side came from a severe lack of socialization. Next thing I knew, Zeus was very aggressive and very fearful of men. What had I gotten myself into? A few weeks later, Zeus and I flew all the way to Victoria, B.C. together and took the Wonderdogs Professional Dog Training Program by Ben Kersen. Now Zeus is 1 year old, and he is a happy, healthy, well-rounded dog who loves to play tug-o-war, fetch, and wrestle. Zeus is the kind of dog who can brighten anyone’s day, whether by drinking beer from the bottle, snuffing out candle flames, chasing laser pointers, or by dipping his face in a bucket of suds and coming out with a beard. He has rediscovered puppyhood late in life, but he will always be my baby!” – Zeus’ Mom, Rachel

Good for you in giving Zeus a good home and a chance to become a puppy again. I love good endings!
Zeuser! Yukon says hi, and thanks for the wonderful skunk perfume that you sent him home with. See ya soon for a romp in the backyard!
Yes, getting sprayed by a skunk is one of Zeus’ latest escapades. Tip for anyone who is in the same boat: Mix 1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide with 1/2 cup of baking soda and 2 drops of liquid soap. It reacts instantly, so pour it on the dog immediately and only use one batch at a time. Zeus needed 5 batches, but it worked! Let it soak for 5 minutes, then bath them to get the mixture out of their fur. Careful around the eyes, use a cloth!
