This is absolutely awesome! An excellent example of the power and possibilities of open data.
Very cool – have been waiting for this for quite a while!
Cool website, but I have to ask why at the current time Reid a park listed as no dogs is at the top of the lists and Bruce Pit is further down the list.
It may be useful if you could add either a filter for parks that has less then a certain number of ratings or list the number of ratings next to a parks name.
Thanks all!
Octo – Did you search your address? When you do that it actually lists it as the parks closest to you. Or it could just be that we just released this last night and some test ratings are still present in it. I am sure it will take a little while for the park ratings to reflect the actual public opinion.
As for the filtering, there is a search field below the list of parks where you can search for a specific park.
Hope that helps!
This is brilliant – a couple in my own backyard I didn’t know about.
A few suggestions for v2.0:
Show number of people who rated the parks – a 100% park rating by one person doesn’t mean the same as a 89% park rated by 50 people.
A space for user comments/correction/qualifiers for each park – I’m sure some of the parks listed as off-leash are not. Not officially anyway…
A ‘size’ rating – 90% of the appeal of the ‘Pits’ is the vast size and many trails to explore.
More rating degrees – 4 or 5 would allow people to give a better impression than just 3…
BUT – as is, it’s awesome – thanks for the hard work!!!
One more! A filter to sort by off-leash, leashed, and no dogs would be useful…
Johnny – thank you so much for the suggestions, they are great!! I have passed them along to Thomas for v2.0.
This is an awesome Website. I have another suggestion. Mention how securethe park is. Is it fenced or partially fenced or not fenced at all.
This is great! Love the idea of more filters in the future but this is more than what we had before (the city’s website was listed by name – as if anyone knows the names of parks in their area!).
It also brings to light that there are ZERO off-leash parks in Kanata – boo!
Would definitely like to know if any fenced dog parks exist..
Thanks everyone for the great feedback.
I just updated the Park Finder so that is shows how many people have rated a park. It is visible via: hovering over the rating; in the info window on the map; or, if your screen is wide enough, it will be in the listing, next to the park type logo.
Liz and I have also been discussing how we can add filtering based on park type.
LOVE THIS! Just a note that the Primrose Park is in the wrong spot on the map. It’s showing up near Gladstone, but it’s actually on the corner of Primrose and Rochester Streets. Otherwise, great work!
Are there any parks other than Landsdowne that are fully fenced? That’s an important thing for me.
Darren, Jack Purcell is now fully fenced in, It’s not in the city records yet, which is probably not why it’s not labelled as such on this site.
Also, the park is Open from 5am to 11pm with no restrictions now.
Is there any way of updating the finder with this info, admittedly only gleaned from an email to Diane Holmes, and actually visiting the park?
