I have 2 mutts but I guess I will have to pick between them. Mortimer is an 11 year old lab husky (in my opinion) and Lucy was a science experiment gone wrong as she was supposed to be a Labradoodle but she is neither lab nor poodle. We took her in and we suspect she is a golden chow. Keep up the fine blog.

I have a six year old Labradoodle but I’m sure there is some other things in there! He gets called a Bouvier and an Irish Wolfhound by a lot of people. His name is Woody and I adopted him a year ago.

I raced out to the rescue group I got Jack from 4 1/2years. He is definitely part Corgi…soooo smart! But what else…Chihuahua, Jack Russell maybe Pom?

Our dog Emma is a rescue from a puppy mill. We are reasonable sure she is part cocker spaniel, but the rest is a mystery. Definitely some sort of terrier plus who knows what else. She is built for running and still looks and acts like a puppy at 4 years old.

I got Ernie about 6 years ago from the Humane Society. They deemed him a ‘cockapoo’ but I’m sure there is Terrier in him and maybe more!
Would love to find this out, as I know so little about his background…

My dog, Sam, is 2 years old. We think he is a mix between a Lab and a Boxer, but I’m sure there is more. Maybe a little Great Dane?

My dog, Sugar, is a year and a half and we believe her mom was lab but it’s a guess as to what dad was.

She looks a little like a big shiba inu in colouring with slightly less fluff. She definitely doesn’t have the lab ears or tail and she is slimmer and taller than an average lab.

The whole family would love to be able to figure out the mystery and finally be able to answer the question of what kind of dog she is when people ask us about her!

Oliver is 2 years old. We rescued him from the SPCA in Gatineau, who told us that he was a Boston Terrier cross. In our opinion, he has no Boston in him – we think he’s more part Lab, part pitbull. Would love to know, although we love him no matter what mix of breeds he is

Lola is supposed to be a labradoodles. I was shown her mom, the labrador retriever and her dad, the standard poodle. BUT she has n opoodle curls; she has a lion’s mane and she weighs 90lbs (she’s not overweight!).

Most people think she’s a wolfhound or deerhound. I’d love to know for sure what makes her such a beauty.

I was told my girl is half Sharpei and half Cane Corso but I have no proof so am very interested in finding out for certain out of curiosity.

Abby (or Monkey as she is just as likely to answer to)came to us just over a year ago from the SPCA. She is a wiggly, 85lb bundle of energy. We were told at the time that she is probably a mastiff/rhodesian ridgeback mix but everyone that meets her has a different idea. “She’s a boxer crossed with a pitbull”, American Bull/bullmastiff mix… we really don’t know. It’s such a fun topic of conversation that we’d love to know exactly what she is so we can carry on the game with people but actually have an answer for them in the end.
Whatever she is, she’s a beauty and we love her! Abby is 2 years old as far as we know! =)

My dogs name is Rufus and he is almost 3. We were told that he was a basset hound/ daschund mix but we see no daschund in him. We are thinking he is also a little mastiff perhaps.

We agreed to adopt our now one year old Harvey, when he was 2 days old from a shelter. At that time we were told he was a French Bulldog cross. We had visions of a quiet sleepy Frenchi but our dog grew and grew and our vet thinks he is a cattle dog. He needs daily 10 km runs just to calm him down and cannot keep still. I would love to finds out his heritage and if there is *any* frenchie in him

Sheldon is 1 year, 2 months old. As far as we can tell, he’s a Shih-poo (Shih Tzu/Poodle mix), though many people have their own opinion on what they think he is lol!

Haley has been in our family for almost 4 years now. We were so fortunate to adopt her from the Humane Society in Ottawa. The staff at OHS originally told us that she was Border Collie/ Australian Shepherd but we have our doubts! We think she has the following breeds somewhere in her lineage: Nova Scotia Duck Toller, Australian Shepherd, Shletie and Keeshond. We always get asked, “What breed of dog is she? She’s got such a beautiful face!”. We’d love to be able to answer something other than “The Village Dog”, or “We have no idea! What is your guess?”. Thanks for the contest Liz!

Ace is two years old and we suspect he is sort of havanese jack Russell terrier mix? He is a goof and we love him to death!

MacPhee is 4 years old. I was told he is pat Pom. Don’t know what else he is.

Rosey is a nearly 16 year old street mutt! Our best guess is German Shepherd Border Collie mix, but who knows?

Our secondhand 7 year old dog named Bluebell looks just like an English pointer but is only 15lbs. She has big black spots on her back and brown and black ticking all through her coat. Her ears are floppy and her legs are long. We think she might be part hound, part pointer, with some kind of terrier? She baffles everyone she meets and we are repeatedly asked what she is. We usually just tell people she is a perfect mutt.

Buddy is 8 and was adopted from a Cat Rescue 7 years ago. I’m sure he’s part Golden (his gentle soul) and Border Collie (he gathers and puts his own toys away) but then there’s something that makes him too tall to imagine – deer maybe??

Our puppy is named Sadie. She is a rescue, about 7 months old. We know she is Aussie but think she is also mixed with something else, just not sure what…Catahoula, maybe?

Tubby is between 5-7 years old. We got him as a rescue almost 2 years ago. People guess he is a westie-yorkie mix or maltese-poodle. I think he’s a chihuahua-westie mix, but your guess is as good as mind…! We tell people he’s a purebred mutt!

My dogs name is Roxee, we were her foster home when she was first taken in with a local rescue. Needless to say I fell in love with her and had to keep her. She had been passed through a few homes before we got her and all the information about her was lost in the transition. So we don’t know how old she is at all (probably 6-8) and we have no idea on her breed. She definatley has some cocker in her somewhere.

My Trooper is about 7 years old, rescued from a First Nations Reservation. He’s my Indian Dog. He looks mostly German Shepherd, but must have lots of other background – Rottie, Pinscher, Golden Retriever (lousy at retrieving, but loveable as nothing else!)… would love to know!

We as a family bought Cuddles under the notion he was going to be a 3 pound chihuahua, as we didn’t want a bigger dog then our other chihuahua so she would get hurt….. but well at 6 months he is now 7 lbs ( our female is 4) and the vet suspect going to be around 15 pounds…. we are guessing that he is part Jack Russell by his markings and build…. he may not be what we wanted but we will love him just the same.

Our special “lil man” is 1 year and 3 months and though we expected a pure blond lab retriever, we knew with the first howl that there was an impostor. The snout is long, the ears loooong and droopy and he never grew enough to be a true retriever. We do believe that there is either basset hound or beagle in the lil guy and would be thrilled to find out!

Jake is now 12, a little hard of hearing and his sight is going, but our baby still, now with the kids all grown and gone.
He came from the shelter as an 8 week old. A largish dog, with a LOT of long/wavy hair.
Since he always looks like he is happy and “smiling”, people always stop us on our walks and ask what breed he is. I would love to be able to tell them more then “a mutt”, or “a Canadian Dog”:) Some have suggested he looks like a Bearded Collie or a Bouvier mix of some kind.

My little momma’s boy, Scruffy, is estimated to be a little over 6 years old. We adopted him through B.A.R.K when he was around a year old. We believe he is a miniature poodle/terrier mix. But have no idea what kind of terrier he might be and what else might be mixed in there. He’s got interesting colouring with various shades of grey and some caramel browns mixed in. He’s long and lean, weighing in at around 12 lbs. Just a super sweet loveable little guy.

Kristen Copeland. We have a 2.5 year old crazy mutt Hailey we rescued from Catahoula rescue (although she is not a Catahoula). She is a 40 lb, medium sized mutt. Black body with brown feet and white spots. She has webbed feet. Everyone we meet has a different guess but here is our best guess what she may be: Lab (coat and webbed feet), border collie/cattle dog (white markings and her speed – it is a joy to watch her run), some sort of ratter (you should see her bounce and jump to hunt – this would also account for her size). We joke she has an identify crisis – she herds, points and pounces to hunt!

My sweetheart Ceilidh is a 6.5 year old mutt. She was given to me as a gift, and I was told she’s a lab/boxer mix. Hah! She has a lean, sleek body and pointy snout, and black and tan fur. My best guess is a husky/german shepherd cross, but I’d love to know for sure. She’s faster than most of the other dogs at the dog park, good-natured, and extremely affectionate.

We took in a stray a few months ago and he certainly looks like a Schnauzer, but he has a full tail as well as brindle stripes all down his back! We’d love to know Friday’s DNA!

Bentley is a 2 1/2 yr old female cattle dog mix we think, maybe some boarder collie, husky, german shepherd, we don’t really know but she’s the smartest dog I’ve ever owned and we love her to pieces!: )

We adopted Chloe two years ago from Good Dog Rescue. At that time she was approximately six months old. We were told she was likely border collie/lab mix. What we can’t figure out is where she gets her very curly tail from. She has a sweet disposition, is very smart and can run like the wind.

My puppy is a seven month old rescue dog that is a dashund mix. We think he is part dashund and part terrier. People have guessed pincher and Doberman too.

I adopted Charlie from LAWS 5 years ago and when asked his breed mix I usually reply with Terrier/Shih Tzu surprise, or Benji Dog. I have no idea really what he is other than a scruffy, loveable mutt. I call him my puppy mill dog whisperer because he’s the calm boy who always helps my newly arrived puppy mill fosters adjust to living in a home. They get crated with him at night and when we go out and he calms them down. He’s so patient and puts up with so much. He’s also smart as a whip and loves to learn. He got the best of whatever breeds he’s made up of that’s for sure!

I have a year old dog named Dozer. The rescue where we found him told us he is an olde boston bulldog. He resembles a miniature boxer!!

My name’s Kelli and I’m always being asked what breed we think our 5-year old Brady is. So far, all we’ve figured out is that he’s a papillon mix – just not sure with what! Would love to find out though

Our Ruby Tuesday is a 2-year-old mini-schnauzer mix we adopted from the Vet Tech program at Algonquin College. I’m positive Dad or Grandpa had to be some sort of Spaniel. When you throw the ball for Ruby she spends more time tracking it than bringing it back to. Her docked tail goes a mile a minute when she’s tracking. I would love to have my suspicions confirm.

We adopted our now 15 month old Boomer from the Ottawa Humane Society. We were told he’s a Boston Terrier/Llahsa Apso mix, but judging by how he looks and pics of both breeds, it seemed unlikely! Someone at the dog park suggested Boston Terrier/Chihuahua and that seems to fit the best in terms of pictures on google. We’d love to find out what Boomer really is!

Our dog’s name is Sullivan. He is 8 months old, rescued from the SPCA in Alymer. Though we were informed he was full Bernese, he clearly is not. He definitely has the markings of a Berner, but.. is slightly smaller than average, we think, with a puffier tail and pointier nose. We are constantly being asked his breed. We suspect he’s got a bit of collie in him, or maybe australian shepherd. We are curious to know just how big our boy is going to get…

I have two little mutts and the flip of the coin says I should submit Sammy. Sammy is a seventeen month old small mix breed with the oddest coat; he has absolutely no undercoat, sparse and coarse fur! Type of breed? LOL! everyone has their opinion… I have had veterinarians suggest Shih Tzu because of the fur colour pattern, Yorkie because of his face, Chinese Ccrested because of the sparse fur and the spotted pattern on his skin and even had someone suggest Bichon Frise, Spaniel and Maltese. He is quite the mystery! Regardless he is well loved!

Sweetie Pie is my 6 1/2 year old dog. I adopted her at 4 months, and the OHS and vet thinks she is Doberman through and through, but she looks so different from the dobies in the area. She is several inches taller and much leaner, and has a grey-white undercoat in her neck/shoulder area. I would like to know for sure whether she is all dobie, or with something mixed in…

When we got our dog Pebbles, we were told she was a French Bulldog / Boston Terrier mix. When she started to grow, so did here nose! We think she’s a Beagle or Jack Russell mixed with Boston Terrier. We would love to find out what mix she really is. What ever mix Pebbles is we think she’s the cutest and love her to death

Belle is a 5 year old rescued dog. I was told she is a whippet mix: possibly with a beagle. She is certainly mixed with a scent hound, and if not beagle, perhaps a fox hound.

Bailey is a 4 year old shihtzu mix. Most people guess that Bailey may be part Pekanese, or Laso, but we really aren’t too sure. Whatever the mix, he’s adorable.

Belle is 12 years old. When I got her they told me she was a
Chihuahua “mix”. Some common guesses at her other half have been: Jack Russell, Italian Greyhound, Rat Terrier and Alien.
