(Ottawa Dog of the Week for October 15st, 2012)
Abu [named after the monkey in Disney's" Aladdin" movie] is my six month old Mini English Goldendoodle. After the sudden and unexpected death of my Doodle Loki, in January, Abu came to mend my heart and dry my tears May 5th. He has done a fantastic job of helping me through my grief. He is a lovable, funny, sweet, social butterfly who lights up everyones day. He enjoys a morning walk and most often a muddy play in a near by soccer field with a few of his four legged buddies. He sports a long shaggy cream coloured coat that is a magnet for dirt. Do to his penchant for running and wrestling with fellow dogs he must endure many brush outs and wash downs not to mention four or five foot soaks a day. He takes it all in stride without a fuss. I’d venture to say he enjoys the ,shall we say,”beautifying.” Every day he also gets to play with the Golden Retriever who lives next door. Heaven help us if they can’t get together at least once a day.
Abu is a voracious eater of vegetables. Peppers, cucumber, zucchini and I can’t leave out his favorite tomatoes! Blueberries, cherries and watermelon also tickle his fancy. Oh gosh I forgot hot air popcorn with a tiny drizzle of butter. He’s quite the character. He enjoys stalking [is he a cat or a dog?] the Mourning Doves that come to our feeder and protecting our yard from those crazy squirrels. A trip to the Pet Shop is also high on his list of fun things to do. He’s 30 lbs of love in a shaggy cuddly package and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. I love you Abu.
