“This is my 7 month old, Labrador retriever named Abigail Eloise or “Abby”. After careful searching, we met her mother shortly after she was born and we brought her home Boxing Day 2009. True to her breed, she’s a social butterfly and loves the water. She’s a high energy pup, who loves going to the dog park to make new friends, running around and chasing sticks!!” – Abby’s human, Stephen.

“This little guy’s full name is “Rocco, ‘Mud on the tires’, Balbones”, but around here, we just call him Rocco. We named him after Rocky Balboa, my favorite movie character, and ‘Mud on the tires’ is actually his CKC registered name, given to him by the Breeder.

Rocco is our curious, 15-week old, brindle, Boxer pup. He loves to make new friends and is always up for a playful romp in the backyard. Although he’s full of bouncing-baby-boy energy, he’ll never turn down an opportunity for a snuggle, and at night, he’s happier than a pig in mud, if he has his favorite toy bunny next to him as he sleeps. Rocco is slowly getting used to his crate but when he’s roaming around, he can often be seen with his chewy toys, attempting to catch his own tail, or trying to figure out how to play with our cat, Luna, without scaring her off. He’s a joy, and our first Boxer, so we’re excited to show him off! We have started puppy classes, where he’s popular with the ladies!! “This is my dog Tucker, he’s a wire hair Jack Russell.

I adopted him from a local rescue in December after his previous owners abandoned him when they moved. We quickly became best buds! He loves to play, especially with other neighbourhood dogs, but running around at Manotick Park has to be his favourite. When it really comes down to it, he’s a super big suck because he loves to cuddle.

How anyone could leave him is beyond me but then again if they hadn’t he wouldn’t be with me getting spoiled!” – Tucker’s mom, Jennifer.

“Nugget is a 10-year old Collie-German Shepherd mix. When I picked him up from a farm in Pembroke 10 years ago, he was the only one in the litter I could catch. His slowness that day was deceiving, however. These days, Nugget’s athletic nature allows him to keep up with speedy snowmobiles without a problem for long distances, always ready for more. On walks, he regularly pulls his brother, Tacoma along by the collar on their “double dog leash”, and he’s been known to scale 6-foot tall chain-link fences & climb ladders as necessary. In addition to his athletic nature, he’s as smart as a whip and sometimes I’m convinced he understands English as well as most people. On walks, he ellicits “ooooohhhs” and “aaahhhs” from passers-by and the occasional “he’s beyoooooootiful Mommy!” from children. He’s modest, but I’m sure he loves the attention. I sure am glad I caught him on a slow day so many years ago… I really lucked out!” – Nugget’s human, Reid.

“This is my one year old Golden Retriever, Rocky; who will be celebrated his 1st birthday on June 7 with his friends Mitzi, Roxy, Porsche, Tika, Kobi, Lilly, Myles, Jackson and his newest family member Maggie . With summer just around the corner he is just getting to know the water and is embracing the water dog lifestyle.” – Rocky’s human, Paul.

“This is my new puppy Basil. He is a Schnorkie (yorkie + mini schnauzer). He is the most adorable little guy. He is 9 weeks old now and loves to snuggle on people’s laps. He enjoys his walks and meeting new friends. I have attached some pictures of him trying on some new outfits. He actually loves to try on different clothes.” – Basil’s mom, Bonnie.

“We got Popeye (a pomeranian) after we lost our youngest dog, at five years old, to hemolytic anemia, a very fast moving blood disorder. We were devastated and in a state of shock after losing our baby to this horrible disorder. It took a matter of days, and he was gone. Our hearts were totally broken. Our two older dogs were moping around and barely eating, and the house lacked any life. After only a couple of weeks, we started searching for a puppy to help heal our broken hearts. Popeye did that and more. Although he will never replace the dog we lost, he has brought life back into the house again. Although it took time, our two other dogs accepted him as part of the family, and now get along quite well. He is a pleasure, well behaved and a comfort to us. He is quite active, but yet always has time for a cuddle. We are totally in love with him.” – Popeye’s mom, Eileen.

“Peanut is our family dog. She is 10 years old and half shi tzu, half bichon frisé. Born on November 30th, we picked her up in the early weeks of the following January when she was just 3 pounds (she’s about 15 pounds now). I still remember travelling home with her, and my sister, parents and I trying to decide on a name. We finally decided on Peanut and it seemed to suit her just perfectly. Over the years, we took Peanut to obedience classes and taught her various ‘tricks’ (shake a paw, sit pretty, speak) but she certainly wasn’t the most cooperative dog. 10 years later she still has a huge stubborn streak and is quite independent but has a great cuddle side to her and enjoys being picked up and carried (mind you, she’s quite happy to walk herself thankyouverymuch). I cannot imagine our lives without Peanut, but know that someday it will be a reality. She has brougth so much joy to our lives and like most dogs, has become a family member.” – Peanut’s Human, Amanda
