Meet Mishka, a 2 year old Teacup Poodle who is our Ottawa Dog of the Week for the week of May 25th, 2015.

Describe your dog in three words:
Energetic, sassy and full of life

How did your dog come into your life?
I got her when she was a wee little baby of 6 weeks from a breeder in Barrie, Ontario. We made our first trip back home to Timmins, ON where she shook and stared at me the entire way.

What do you love most about your dog?
I love her sassy personality. She will push your hand with her nose towards something that she wants, or she’ll hide her eyes when she thinks she’s in trouble. It almost seems as if we can tell what she is feeling!

What’s the most mischief your dog has ever gotten into?
It’s more what mischievous pranks was played on her! Once, she was given a small little mohawk when I wasn’t looking. She flaunted that thing for weeks.

Your dog thinks it’s totally okay to…
Lie on your shoulders whether your laying down or sitting upright.

Anything else?
Once you start playing fetch, there’s no going back! She can also high five, give the paw, jump twice her height and climb up cages.

Ottawa Dog of the Week: Mickey http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/05/ottawa-dog-of-the-week-mickey/ http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/05/ottawa-dog-of-the-week-mickey/#comments Mon, 18 May 2015 04:01:16 +0000 http://ottawadogblog.ca/?p=13466 Ottawa Dog of the Week: Mickey

Meet Mickey, a 2 year old Miniature Dachshund who is our Ottawa Dog of the Week for the week of May 18th, 2015.

Describe your dog in three words:
Goofy, crazy, and hilarious

How did your dog come into your life?
Two summers ago, was my first summer staying in Ottawa for good, instead of moving back home with my parents before the next school year. I was one of the few of my friends who was staying in Ottawa, and decided this was my chance to get myself the dog of my dreams and have not only a companion for that summer, but for life.

I did a lot of research, but when I finally found a breeder in Gatineau, she invited me to go see her newest litter. When I arrived all the puppies were yapping at the gate, except for the runt of the litter sitting on the bed completely quiet. I knew that he was the one! His ears were initially black but eventually they ended up matching his tan body. Which is why his name is Mickey.

What do you love most about your dog?
Little did I know that the quiet little runt of the litter would become the funniest, goofiest, weirdest most adorable thing in my life! What I love most about Micks are the countless faces he makes, and his hilarious way to try and get what he wants. He knows he’s adorable and he works with it! Another thing I love the most is that as soon as he knows were going outside he does circles around himself in excitement. There’s nothing more amazing than watching him be happy.

What’s the most mischief your dog has ever gotten into?
Oh, we’ve been through a lot of mischief….The most however, would have to be the time he got into a full litter box…. I know know his guilty pleasure. He also went through a weird phase where he hated the sheets on my bed, so every time I would leave, he would tear them to shreds like confetti, were past that now thank god!

Your dog thinks it’s totally okay to…
To sit on my head in the middle of the night!!

Anything else?
Mickey has this weird obsession with big trucks. Whenever a truck goes by, he has to watch it. He loves firetrucks, mail trucks, snowplows, construction trucks. In the winter he sits by the window and watches the snowplows outside, and whines because he wants to be outside watching them ! Haha

How did your dog come into your life?

What’s the most mischief your dog has ever gotten into?
She tears branches off our pine trees and has the branches all over the backyard.

Your dog thinks it’s totally okay to…

Ottawa Dog of the Week: Eddie http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/04/ottawa-dog-of-the-week-eddie/ http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/04/ottawa-dog-of-the-week-eddie/#comments Mon, 27 Apr 2015 04:01:54 +0000 http://ottawadogblog.ca/?p=13441 Eddie

Meet Eddie, a 14 year old Beagle/Basset Hound who is our Ottawa Dog of the Week for the week of April 27, 2015.

Describe your dog in three words:
Tranquil, loving, gentle

How did your dog come into your life?
Eddie hails from somewhere in Ohio. He was passed from shelter to shelter until he ended up in a rescue in Northern Ontario. Eddie was very weak and very sick. He was not expected to last more than a week. My parents took Eddie in as a foster to give him a warm bed to live out his remaining days. Fast forward 10 years and Eddie is still with us today! He is a very calm, gentle boy. My father often jokes that his heart only beats once every 11 minutes! If Eddie picks up a scent, his hound instincts go into overdrive.

What do you love most about your dog?
What’s not to love?

Your dog thinks it’s totally okay to…
Lick you to death.

Ottawa Dog of the Week: Barney http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/04/ottawa-dog-week-barney/ http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/04/ottawa-dog-week-barney/#comments Mon, 13 Apr 2015 04:01:58 +0000 http://ottawadogblog.ca/?p=13174 1458683 1429504390631488 3726582750852460087 n

Meet Barney, a 3 year old American Foxhound/Harrier Mix who is our Ottawa Dog of the Week for the week of April 13, 2015.

Describe your dog in three words:
Gentle, Calm, Affectionate

How did your dog come into your life?
In Winter 2014, we adopted Barney from the Ottawa Humane Society, where they had him as a door greeter. He has instantly embedded into our hearts. Being blind in one eye, Barney had not found the right owner yet. He fit perfectly into our lives and now, since the adoption, it feels like he’s been here a lifetime.

What do you love most about your dog?
His gentle temperament; never before have I seen a dog so friendly to other pooches and others. He wants to greet everyone, any time, no matter what. He loves chasing squirrels, not so much the ball. We adore him for being so loyal, and kind, and immensely sweet.

What’s the most mischief your dog has ever gotten into?
I think it would be me waking up to find him panicking with my phone in his mouth, while it buzzes from a call. I spent half an hour getting all the slobber of it.

Your dog thinks it’s totally okay to…
Pretend he is a lapdog and plop his 60 pound self on anyone’s lap.

Dining in the Dark in support of Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/04/dining-in-the-dark-in-support-of-canadian-guide-dogs-for-the-blind/ http://ottawadogblog.ca/2015/04/dining-in-the-dark-in-support-of-canadian-guide-dogs-for-the-blind/#comments Fri, 10 Apr 2015 14:46:44 +0000 http://ottawadogblog.ca/?p=13584 DINING IN THE DARK FILE PHOTO 1

Chances R presents the 6th Annual Dining in the Dark; Unseen Cuisine, in support of Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Dine in the dark on Monday, May 25, 2015 with a blacked out restaurant and served four courses meal.  Tickets are $35 per person.

Doors open one hour before and there are two sittings; 5:00pm and 7:30pm.

You must purchase a ticket in advance to attend, and tickets do sell out quickly.  Tickets are available at Chances R in the College Square plaza at 1365 Woodroffe Avenue.

In the first five years, Chances R has raised over $20,000 from Dining in the Dark.

About Chances R:

In the spring of 1976, the Chances R Restaurant was established and located in Shopper’s City mall on the corner of Baseline and Woodroffe. Amongst the original partners was Brian Kilrea, Hall of Fame coach of the Ottawa 67’s. The following year saw Nick Bouris, a graduate from the Hotel and Restaurant faculty of Niagara College, join the management team and within a few years became the restaurant’s only working partner.

In 1998, Brian and Nick became sole owners of the Chances R and immediately began drawing up the blueprints for a new restaurant at the future College Square.

In March 2003, the newly designed Chances R opened its doors with unbound enthusiasm and some new additions to the partnership team, Mike Bouris and Matt Moore. Since then, the restaurant has received outstanding accolades and has served over a million customers. The Consumers Choice Award for “Ottawa’s Best Family Restaurant” had been awarded to Chances R for the past seven consecutive years. Chances R is also extremely proud to be nominated in 2009 for the “Service Excellence Award” by the Nepean Chamber of Commerce and the “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Ottawa Restaurant Association.
