Welcoming a baby into your home can take some adjustments, for both you and you dogs. Here are some tips from Alana & Marco who run the Kingston / Belleville and Ottawa West Bark Busters.

• Make any changes to your dog’s environment and routines at least 2 months prior to bringing your baby home (i.e. dog is now outside more, feed and walk times are variable, not sleeping on your bed, etc.)
• Start ignoring your dog’s demands for attention. Call him to you for pats. The demanding will only get worse once baby is home.
• It is best to use a crate/portable den for your dog to sleep in and to provide his own “safe place” when you need him away from you or your baby.
• Ensure your dog has at least basic obedience training in place and working.

I got this email from a co-worker today. Her brother-in-law’s Doxie has adopted an orphaned kitten!

“Heidi is my son’s sausage dog, very lovable, and loves sleeping with you. Slept with me when I was there. There is a wild cat that had kittens and all of them very died except this little one in the photos. The mother abandoned it, and my son brought it home. They fed the little kitten out of an eye dropper, and after it perked up a bit, Heidi took over. She can’t nurse it, but is trying to do everything else. So once again I have been slacking on my monthly Etsy duties and now June is almost over and I haven’t done a post yet! Better late than never (again!).

A friend of mine is due to have her baby in September so I thought I would do a post about dog things for babies and little kiddies. Etsy is a great place to shop for baby showers and birthdays. Since I found so many items, I am going to spread the Baby Etsy post over a few months.
