I often daydream about what I would do if I ever came into a lot of money; what charities I would support, how I would pay off my mortgage and take my family on a nice vacation. I realize it’s kind of silly, especially since we rarely buy lottery tickets, but it’s something I think about (probably more than I should!)
Since getting the dogs, I have also started daydreaming about what I would buy for them if I had the means to spoil them even more rotten than they are now. By no means is our world devoid of ways to pamper, indulge and cater to our dogs.
Here is a list of things I dream about spoiling my dogs with.
I fell in love with the Sleepypod as soon as I saw it last year. It’s stylish and sleek and goes anywhere. It converts from a travel crate into a bed and it can also be used as a car-seat. I really want one but can’t justify the price tag, especially since I would need two and I ALREADY have crates that double as car-seats for them. Also, shipping to Canada is hefty. So it’s definitely on my “if I won the lottery list”!

It is with great sadness that I announce that Duke, Ottawa’s most famous Great Dane, has passed. Duke was laid to rest last Thursday July 23rd at 3:30pm after a battle with bone cancer. Duke was a staple to the Ottawa and Kanata Bark and Fitz stores. He helped to raise thousands of dollars for charity and brought smiles to many people’s faces over the years.
Although he weighed in at a whopping 180lbs, Duke was the best behaved and gentlest dog I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and working with. He appeared in many fundraising campaigns for “Photos with Duke” or “Shake a Paw for $1″ and always did so happily and lovingly.
Corduroy, at one point in her life, decided that all big dogs were bad – she’d bark non-stop and let them know that she did not like them, except for one, Duke. She loved Duke and never barked at him. He even let her climb all over him, even though he wasn’t too fond of puppies. That was the kind of dog he was, patient and accepting – people would come to the store just to see him!
Duke brought true meaning to the phrase “gentle giant” and will be missing by many, dogs and humans alike. He is remembered by his humans, Amanda and Matt as well as his doggy siblings, Bosco and Angel and by the entire Bark & Fitz Ottawa and Kanata staff, past and present.
Westfest 2009 was a great success! Ottawa Dog Blog teamed up with Bark & Fitz Westboro and elizabeth&jane photography to do a fun and cheeky fundraiser for BARK Rescue. Thanks to everyone who participated, we were able to raise $550 for the organization! View the Bad Dog Mug Shot Gallery here.
The reasons for the bad dogs being booked are below:
Saturday
1. Corduroy – for chewing up my favourite DVD!
2. Kuma and Bandit – for chasing every dog possible!!!
3. Charlie – for ripping up the carpet through the dog fence
4. Cocochilla – she’s under arrest for being so cute!
5. Albert – there isn’t enough space!
6. Olive – for stealing people’s hearts Continue reading →

Every dog is a good dog…and every dog is a bad dog! Why not capture that naughty side of your beloved four legged friend to remember and laugh about the time she ate your orthotic shoe insert (Corduroy!), or the time she got into your recipes and chewed them all up (Paddington!). I am sure we all have stories!
The Bad Dog Mug Shot photo shoot will be taking place during the Westfest Weekend on Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th outside of Bark and Fitz on Richmond Road. Photos are $15 with proceeds going to BARK Rescue!
Fur in the Family was held at both Bark and Fitz locations last month and was a whopping success. Thanks to Lynne from Bark and Fitz, and Sue, the Urban Dog Photog, an amazing $1830 was raised for the Ottawa Therapy Dogs!
Thank you to everyone who came out to get their portrait taken – I know that I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the prints!
