All proceeds from the calendar sales are going to Birch Haven Rescue. Let’s make this an incredible pre-christmas stocking stuffer fundraiser for this great local rescue group who make an wonderful difference in many animals’ lives.

Local shelter, Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation, which specializes in the rescue and care of giant breed dogs (mostly great danes) has begun a grim count down of the number of days worth of food they have left. Right now they are down to only 9 days left. They are desperately in need of donations of both food and money.

As of May 5th, we ONLY have 3 bags of dog food left; that will last us about 9 days~from the Birch Haven Website

Because of this, my friends, family and I (I am a local college student) have started a sort of food drive called ‘Five 4 Food;. We are asking people in the community to donate $5 (or however much they can and want to give) to Birch Haven.

If you are interested in donating to this cause, please write donation checks out to the name of ‘Kanata Animal Hospital’ and ensure that c/o Gwen Boers/BHRR is in the ‘memo’ section of your check. Please mail your checks to:

In 3 hours; $2,221.38 was raised through both auctions, activities plus donations! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

We have already been asked about this event for 2009 and pictures will be posted on our site as soon as they are received and the feedback has been AMAZING!

Most popular items included a Louise Peterson Statue, a photo session donated by Liz Kerrison of The Ottawa Dog Blog, a Country Adventure for 2 with horseback riding, dinner etc. at our house, a gorgeous wooden oriental chessboard with inlaid tiles plus soapstone chess pieces, a Ducks Unlimited picture and a 4 hour training/behavoural session with PH. D Animal Behavoural Student; me!
