There will be dogs available for adoption, food, nail trims and lots of fun all around.

So officially this is a Kong video and I don’t think you necessarily need the official Kong products, but the theory behind it is great. We actually use small kongs for our dogs when we go out.
I make up a mixture of yogurt, peanut butter, bananas and a bit of honey then I put it into the Kong and freeze it to give them more of a challenge. They love it!
For the feeding, with our home cooked diet, using a treat ball of Kong wobbler won’t really work, but instead I fill Wellington’s treat ball with blueberries and she loves it!
Here is an example of a dog in action, eating from a Kong feeder (again, you don’t need the official Kong product, although they are good!). I saw these two kinds at Homesense this week.
Another food recall. Check out the details on Ottawa K9 School’s blog.

Congratulations to Allison and Phoebe! They are the grand prize winners of the Ottawa Dog Blog 2nd Birthday Contest Giveaway!! Also, congratulations goes out to Michelle and Jack, our winners of the runner up prize!!
Thank you to everyone who entered and for your wonderfully kind and beautiful words. I am honoured that all of you take the time to make this blog a part of your life and I thank you for it!
Ottawa has the best dog community ever!!!
I have written several articles on the importance of diet as pertaining to the quality of life your dog leads. It is so important to me to help to spread the word. We’ve also had several guest writers chime in on different topics such as feeding a raw diet.
There are more articles to come, one in particular about my adventures in switching my dogs to a home cooked diet (it’s not as scary as you might think!).
For now, I was directed to a great article online about the dangers of processed food.
Birch Haven Rescue and Rehabilitation Services is a local rescue specializing in assisting Giant Canine Breeds & Equines & focus on the Special Needs – (Deaf, Blind, Sick, Senior & Injured). BHRR does not pick and choose which animal to assist but rather helps the next one in need!
Their area of assistance is across North America & the area of placement is mostly in Ontario plus Quebec. BHRR provides a safe ‘haven’ for animals for life should they not be adopted or are deemed un-adoptable. Birch Haven is a non-profit program and is an all-Volunteer organization without any salaried employees
Unfortunately BHRR is entering a food shortage again. With the upcoming addition of a new rescue, their current food resources will last only about 10 days. Please consider donating to help. Thanks so much! Currently BHRR feeds Canidae, Fromm, Natural Balance, Wellness and Solid Gold but will accept any high quality food. You can also choose to donate funds via Pay Pal, cash, or cheque. A $55.00 gift can buy enough food to feed 9 Giant Breeds for 4 days Please consult their website for more information on how you can do this.
As well, a calendar is for sale at Global Pet Foods-Kanata which goes to support BHRR.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
