Please help save the Sandy Hill dog park!

As of September 3, 2010, dogs will no longer be allowed to use the Sandy Hill dog park according to a notice posted by the city at the Sweetland/Somerset entrance to the park. We need everyone’s help in order to save this off leash park!

*URGENT* Lost Yorkie!

Lulu is Lost!

She is a 2 year old brown and gray Yorkie by the name of Lulu. She has a heart shape medallion with her name on it. Her hair was recently cut. She was lost on 07/23/2010 near Ogilvie and City Park. The 5 Best Benji Clips – No Limit To What An Adopted Dog Can Do!

I am a big advocate for dog adoption and we are lucky in Ottawa to have many rescue organizations doing really great work. I received this email a few weeks ago and wanted to share, along with the article they speak about.

We are trying to let people know the importance of what adopted dogs can do and worked with the great Benji creator/director Joe Camp to help spread the word of pet adoption. Out of all of the Benji movies that were produced between 1974 and the early 2000’s, all of the “Benji’s” that have existed (yes, there’s been more than one Benji) have been adopted from animal shelters. This post features 5 of Benji’s best and zaniest clips and shows that not only can a shelter dog be a great pet, but also can achieve anything!

Found Dog: Poodle Mix

FOUND OWNER: In posting flyers further afield, discovered one for a LOST DOG which matched .. I’m happy to report that BiBi the 11 year old 6lb poodle has been reunited with her owner, after a fun-filled 3-day “vacation” .. we figure the dog escaped when her mommy went to work, and the tags were borrowed when BiBi broke her harness while visiting out of town friends (hence the tags which lead nowhere). Thank you all for your support and help!

Did your dogs sense the earthquake?

By now everyone has heard, and most likely felt, the earthquake yesterday. It was my, and both of our dogs, first earthquake and it was definitely rumbly.

There have always been many stories about pets sensing earthquakes before they happen. Thomas works from home and said that Corduroy came upstairs to be with him, and Paddington stayed in the safety of her crate. Neither of them were shook up by the quake, before, during or after really.

But I have heard other stories of cats going crazy before the quake as well as dogs at Doggy Day Care all going to the same spot by the fence.

Did your dog sense the quake? How were your dogs after the quake yesterday afternoon and evening?
