(Ottawa Dog of the Week for June 21st/10)

“Nugget is a 10-year old Collie-German Shepherd mix. When I picked him up from a farm in Pembroke 10 years ago, he was the only one in the litter I could catch. His slowness that day was deceiving, however. These days, Nugget’s athletic nature allows him to keep up with speedy snowmobiles without a problem for long distances, always ready for more. On walks, he regularly pulls his brother, Tacoma along by the collar on their “double dog leash”, and he’s been known to scale 6-foot tall chain-link fences & climb ladders as necessary. In addition to his athletic nature, he’s as smart as a whip and sometimes I’m convinced he understands English as well as most people. On walks, he ellicits “ooooohhhs” and “aaahhhs” from passers-by and the occasional “he’s beyoooooootiful Mommy!” from children. He’s modest, but I’m sure he loves the attention.
I sure am glad I caught him on a slow day so many years ago… I really lucked out!” – Nugget’s human, Reid.

Was your mattress tested this well? This made me laugh – Paddington and Corduroy play the same way. I wonder if it’s a small dog thing…

A while back we announced the release of the amazing Ottawa Dog Park Finder which is a listing of all of the dog parks in Ottawa derived from a listing from the City.
One downfall of this is that unless the city lists it in its notes, there is no way to search by parks that are fenced in, so I thought I would pose the question to my lovely and awesome readers.
Do you know of any dog parks that are fenced in?
You can just leave the name of the park as we will be able to search for it in the Ottawa Dog Park Finder.
As we compile a list, I will look into how we can use this info for the next version of Parkfinder so we can make it better!

Blame the tardiness of this post on the beautiful Easter weekend!
(Ottawa Dog of the Week for April 5th/10)

“Gibson is our 2 year old Bearded Collie (Beardie). He is very friendly with humans and dogs, very active at the dog park, but is chilled out and mellow at home. His long coat is virtually weather proof – it takes the swimming after of several sticks into the river behind St. Paul’s University to get him fully wet down to the skin. The undercoat keeps him happy to be outside in the cold weather and coolish in the warm weather, but, like his owners, he doesn’t care for Ottawa’s summer or winter extremes. That coat requires plenty of brushing and combing and visits every 2-3 months to Brenda at Brenda’s Country Clips. Gibs’ coat started out jet black as a pup, lightened right up to a very cool silver grey at about 1.5 years and is now darkening to his adult dark grey at the tail and shoulders. It looks like waves in the wind or as he runs… then looks like waves full of flotsom and jetsom after he wrestles and rolls with the other dogs. His favourite parks are Conroy Pit for the dogs and St. Paul’s for the swims. Gibson is, quite simply, the best dog ever.” – Gibson’s Mom, Jen
