“Rasta is a 1.5 year old Pug. Rasta is a busy girl, telling other dogs where their place is, breaking up cat fights, chewing her favorite chew toy (plastic keys on ring) or walking proudly through the neighborhood. Although at bedtime Rasta will retreat to HER bed, she always manages to sneak into our bed at about 3am, which is okay with us, she’s a snuggle-’pug’! I have yet to meet a person Rasta does not charm; with her good looks, confident and loving personality. I always say, everybody should share their lives with a pug. Well I’ve skipped around to a few homes and now I’m in my forever home. First I was abused by mean people that would leave me outside, hit me and never pay attention to me. Then somehow I ended up in Ottawa all the way from Texas into a home that thought having a dog would be fun until they figured out how much work I was. I was afarid, cowered and stay by myself in a cage all day and most of the night even while I slept!! I was very lonely until, those owners decied to put me up on USEDOTTAWA and than my mom cam and pick me up. From then on I was a happy camper…finally! I play with my sister Heidi and we sleep together all day and wait for our mom to come home – I love it. Although I still cower and still scared of people, I promised my mom I would try hard to trust again. I like to chase balls and play-fight with Heidi outside, I love outside. My mom lets me run free and sniff anything I want. It is a far cry from being in a cage all the time. I like to eat food off the floor because I never actually ate out of a bowl before – I didn’t know what a toy was and I didn’t even know how to walk on a leash!! My mom is working slowly with the bowl issue (she thinks that the people just threw food at me or not at all because I was a stick when I first got here) it’s just crazy how much my life has changed!! I am so happy now especially at bedtime. I have my own special pillow right beside my mom in bed and I love to get my tummy tickled before I fall asleep every night. I follow my mom around like a shadow just inc ase I loose sight of her. I like to meet new people only when my mom is near, I still get nervous when new people come int o our house, I think its mostly because I think they will take me away…I am very afraid of that so I run into the room where they cant get me and sit on my chair. I am a very good girl though and my mom loves me with all her heart.
What is your opinion on feeding your dog table scraps or people food? We don’t give table scraps persay, but our girls get people food. Yogurt and a baby carrot every morning, Corduroy gets some pineapple pieces before we leave to get rid of her poo eating habits. They get cheese every once and a while and Paddington loves peanut butter. When we give them these treats, we make sure it is never at the table or while we are eating – we don’t want the dogs to start to beg.
People do have mixed feelings when it comes to this topic though. Some people don’t give any people food at all and others don’t seem to mind.

I love sleeping in my mom and dad’s bed, especially hogging it. I’m quiet generally, but instead of barking I like to scream so it sounds like someones killing me. I love eating and running and playing, oh and Im not very good at listening but Im trying to work at that. I really like other dogs and people and my mom makes most of her friends because of me. I am busy 24/7 and I am a going concern. I get into everything because im so curious, everything is my business! I like visiting my nana and I especially like driving her up the wall too, but becides that I am loyal and a good friend and like to keep anybody company especially anybody who likes to pay any attention to me. Oh and I’m not a pug I’m a bug dog. I EAT ANYTHING, I’m a vacuum

Liz Bradley is a dog lover who lives in Ottawa, Ontario with her husband, Thomas, and their three little girls, Paddington, Corduroy and Wellington. Paddington is a Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie) and was born in September 2006 - she's a ball of energy and both Thomas and Liz love her to bits. Corduroy is a Malshi (Maltese/Shih Tzu) and was born in January 2008 - she is bold, determined and will lick you constantly if you let her. Wellington, our newest addition, is a one-year-old ShihTzu/Yorkie mix who we rescued in March from Animatch. She is full of energy and her favourite things are bananas, her Kong Wubba toy and curling up on her humans for a nap.
