Reader Question: Dog Themed Birthday Party?

I got this question from a reader and thought it was an interesting idea. Do any of you have some suggestions?

I am wondering if you or any of your readers would have ideas for an upcoming birthday party for my 10 year-old daughter. She is crazy about all things dog and I thought it would be nice to do an activity at her party that would involve dogs in need. Perhaps she and some friends could volunteer at a shelter to walk or care for the dogs? Do you know if something like this exists in the vicinity of the west-end of Ottawa (around Stittsville/Kanata)?

Reader Question: Where to hike in Ottawa with your dog?

I need my wonderful readers’ help once again! I had a reader as where to bring your dog hiking in Ottawa. Now to tell you a secret, I am actually not really what you’d all “outdoorsy” so I have no clue about the hiking!

Any suggestions you have would be fantastic!

I am wondering if you can put the question out about where people take their dogs for off-leash walks/hikes in the Ottawa area? So many places are technically off limits to off-leash dogs, and I’m getting a bit tired of Bruce Pit and Conroy Pit (though they are both great places). I know there are a number of off-leash dog parks in the city, but they are typically small and not conducive to nice walks/hikes.

Dogs and Weddings

Not many people know this, but I am getting married in August. We are having a nice small ceremony and reception in our backyard surrounded by family, with two family members in particular; Paddington and Corduroy. It was important to me to have my dogs at my wedding, probably because I am a self-proclaimed crazy dog lady and because they are such a huge part of our lives. I am thrilled that the pups will be free to be with us on our big day.

I am not dressing the dogs up at all, Paddy may wear her pearl collar, but that’s about it. I do have a friend who is having their dog be the ring bearer and because of this, have made sure he looks spiffy in a bow tie. Certain websites have entire sections dedicated to doggy wedding gear and there was even a dog marriage at Woofstock in Toronto this summer.

While my personal opinion is that dog marriages are a tad silly, I do think it’s cute for a male dog to don a bow tie, but Paddington’s pearls are as far as I would go in dressing my dogs up for our wedding.

What are your thoughts on having dogs in weddings? What about dressing up for weddings?
