A little while back I got an email from the inventor of the Dog Powered Scooter. The contraption was so interesting that I asked him to write a quick tidbit describing what it is all about.
The design of the Dog Powered Scooter is different from traditional pulling devices in that the dog is harnessed into the SIDE/REAR of a kick scooter and or recumbent trike (the tadpole design with 2 wheels in front) which has a steering wheel and brakes. So the dog follows the rigs through the turns and is subject to its brakes. This gives the rider the directional and speed control to make “mushing” appropriate on urban/congested sidewalks, bike paths and trails and eliminates the extensive dog training need with these traditional dog pulling methods.
