A little while back I posted about a song called Good Friend, written by Pete Dowan. Pete emailed me to let me know that you can now listen to the song online!
I received an email from a musician in Ontario named Pete Dowan about a song he had written about his dog, Scuttle. Scuttle helped him through a very difficult time in his life and the two formed an extra special bond. Sadly, Scuttle is no longer with us, but Pete wrote this song and Scuttle’s memory lives on through it.
History of the song, from Pete
For the first few years that I had my current health condition I had a very difficult time walking. One of my doctors figured out the reason, and when that was dealt with, it was up to me to get myself “going”. That’s where our dog, Scuttle, came in. He bugged me daily to take him out … wouldn’t let up until I did so. His determination was catching, and within a year we were both going on outings that I never dreamed I’d be able to do again. As a thank you, I wrote this song for him. (R.I.P. my boy) If you know it’s about a dog, the lyrics jump out at you as being obvious, but if you don’t, there’s only one line that definitely points to it.
I thought it would be appropriate to post on Valentine’s Day to celebrate the lives of all of our dogs.

1st VERSE:
How I wish I had a friend like you.
Someone I could tell my troubles to.
Someone who won’t laugh and call me fool.
A good friend like you.
2nd VERSE:
Every afternoon we share a walk.
Just a couple times around the block.
You’re so patient while I talk and talk.
A good friend like you.
CHORUS:
GOOD FRIEND, EVERYBODY NEEDS A
GOOD FRIEND, LIFE IS FULL OF WEEDS
WITHOUT A REAL GOOD FRIEND.
3rd VERSE:
Time is all I have to spend on you.
You appreciate it when I do.
Make me feel I’m extra special too.
A good friend like you.
